Excluding Chicago area what is or was at a certain time your favorite town to see shows in outside of Springfield?
Dark and scary Peoria? Haunted Bloomington Normal? Sunny Champaign Urbana? Deathly Decatur? Southern pearl Carbondale? Goulish Galesburg? Ramshackled Rockford? No mans land Macomb? Or perhaps you crave to be near the unwashed hordes in Belleville or Moline?
Where did you have the most fun, enjoyed visiting, or thought had the best music?

I always enjoyed making a trip to Bloomington. Especially around the years 2005 - 2008. I thought the scene there was so different especially compared to what was going on in Peoria which was mainly metal-core and tough guy hardcore stuff. I liked the venues Pool Party House, 1016 Clinton Street (Simple days), The Kitchen, and Das Fun House. Espically seeing bands like MANS, End Me, and Pizza Party @. They could get somewhat bigger bands to play in basements (or kitchens) like The Chinese Stars or HeWhoCorrupts Inc.

One of my favorite local shows I ever went to happened in the loft of one of these buildings in blue mound Illinois around the year 2000 or 2001. I was barely driving, very sick, and going to see Clone. The show was called Butt Fest. There is a whole backstory to why it was called that which I won’t share on the Internet. Let’s just say someone lost a bet because the show was a success.
What people dressed like and listened to at this time may not be what you would expect out of Punk rock kids but this was definitely before The internet made everyone a punk scholar . Rural kids - goofballs all meeting up maybe 200 deep and watching this band from Morrisonville play goofy out of key songs jumping up and down and making a floor move at least a good 6 inches every time was plenty of danger and excitement. Sometimes out of step and weird stuff is the most fun and that little scene and time was definitely special.
I wish I could describe it but the acceptance I felt and the pure joy of finding like minded music and friends at that time probably saved my life. It sure helped shape it. Build your own culture ! It’s okay to be weird and different . Be a good person and create your life . That’s some stuff I learned from these times . You CAN have great creativity in a void like Hillsboro or blue mound . Don’t even doubt you can anywhere . Just use your passion and believe in it to create your drive .
