I cannot believe that you all have been playing games like Qix and completely ignoring this absolute gem on the Galaga machine.
"Players assume the role of a pilot of a futuristic fighter jet trying to rescue fellow pilots trapped in different time eras. In each level, players battle enemy aircraft and then a stronger aircraft. Players' fighter jet is in the center of the screen at all times. Players eventually battle a mothership of the time period they are in; once the mothership is defeated, they move onto the next time period. Parachuting pilots will occasionally appear and award players points if collected."
This gets really interesting in the fact that you start in the year 1910, during WW1, and are shooting bi-planes. After defeating the blimp boss, you then warp to WW2 and fight WW2 planes, with the boss being a flying fortress. From there you warp to 1970 and fight Vietnam era helicopters, with the boss being a double heli. Then you warp aaaaalllll the way to the present day, 1982 and are up against modern fighter jets! If you can make it past that the final warp takes you faaaaaaar into the future to fight the UFOs in the far off year of 2001!!!!!
Some interesting history on this game: "According to his account, Yoshiki Okamoto's proposal for Time Pilot was initially rejected by his boss at Konami, who assigned Okamoto to work on a driving game instead. Okamoto secretly gave instructions to his programmer to work on his idea, while pretending to be working on a driving game in front of his boss"
On Tuesday I had my best game ever and actually made it all the way to 2001 and beat the mothership! Which then took me back to 1910 again. I am now the high score holder at 196,300
