Hi Jonathan, welcome to the forum!! Been waiting for you to join for many years.
Well would you LOOK at that, it looks like we had not yet had a thread for the most CLASSIC game in the arcade - GALAGA (1981) from Google: Galaga was originally released in Japan in 1981. This is the second game in the Galaxian series, which is a first person shooter. The storyline itself is sparse. However, Galaga is the name of the invading army based somewhere in outer space.
and here is a more in-depth look at the gameplay stolen from GALAGA.COM: The enemy alien Galaga attacks in a formation firing Charged Particle Cannons. At the beginning of a stage, the Galaga formation flies into the screen. Each stage features about 40 enemy units in a formation. Defeating as many of them before they finish their formation is key in getting an advantage in battle. The Galaga forces are comprised of 3 types of enemies – Bosses, Guards, and Grunts. As the stage progresses, the enemies start showing various flight patterns and special formation attacks. The Boss Galaga is able to use a tractor beam that can capture the player’s spacefighter. Once caught, the player’s spacefighter will be under the enemy’s possession, but by defeating the Boss Galaga holding the spacefighter captive, the player can then retrieve the captured spacefighter to enter Dual Fighter mode. While in this mode, the player gains double firepower and can defeat enemies much quicker, but in turn, the size of the controlled spacefighter doubles, so the player must show the proper skills to navigate the spacefighter away from enemy attacks. Using this power-up feature is key in clearing the stages.
Here is a video on HOW TO WIN BIG at GALAGA (found on youtube):
my high score on Galaga: 48,940
I'll have to look later to night to see what the HIGH HIGH score on the game is... I know it's a LOT since this is a GALAGA arcade machine we are playing on and it goes all the way back to being in SOME ICE CREAM SHOP IN CARLINVILLE, ILLINOIS IN THE 1990's. (Rumor has it Chris Gunga of Springfield band THE GUNGA DINS snagged it when the ice cream shop was closing for just $10 and it was his. Then he gave it to Jeff at The Whiskey Lounge one night when his band LIKE WITH JETPACKS was playing at the Whiskey Lounge).

I will clarify further that this galaga machine does indeed belong to Chris Gunga and was on loan to the R a d o n l o u n g e and then transferred over to the dumb arcade.
Unfortunately it is no longer a dedicated galaga but is a 60-in-1 but it does save the #1 high score. I believe it was set during a Whiskey show but I no longer remember by who
