Whats up, Misties?! I've been rewatching all the Mystery Science Theater 3000s lately and am going to start listing them here. The Crawling HandReleased 1963 MST3K'd 1989I've been digging these old episodes. I feel like Joel's delivery and demeanor really capture the existential dread of the show more than any of the new riffers. And boy is this movie bad. An astronaut is coming back from space yelling at NASA to kill him. They do it. A young man scares his date by finding a hand on the beach. And that hand is the titular monster, the Crawling Hand! Not only does it strangle you, but it also can possess you to strangle other people? And you get this weird eye makeup? They kept making jokes about how the Sheriff investigating the strangulations (is that a word?) looks like the Skipper from Gilligan's Island. I looked it up after the movie and sure enough it IS the Skipper from Gilligan's Island! I guess there were only a couple actors in the world in 1963. This was a pretty nice episode.

Love this!
From what I've seen of Mystery Science Theater 3000, I am not a fan of all of the banter in the middle of movies (same with Elvira), but I have much appreciation for MST3 for unearthing all of these old movies and giving them attention I guess from the late 1980s to the present day, where a lot of them are floating around on youtube and elsewhere.
Oh look, that one is on youtube!
I've added to my ever growing list of "movies under 90 minutes long that would be good to watch on nights where there are shows or I don't have a lot of time to watch a movie but want to watch a movie still".

All right, got two for you today! MunchieReleased: 1992 MST3Kd: 2022An instant classic. Munchie is a truly terrifying character. Nothing to like about him whatsoever. The basic plot is: things aren't going well in this kids life, his only friend is a old professor like back to the future, and Munchie comes in, uninvited, and starts shenanigans to make the kids life better. At one point a charicature of a Italian chef is chasing a flying pizza down the street, and that's far from the wackiest part of this movie. If you're never gonna catch this episode, you need to see this scene where Munchie is revealed. It's terrifying. youtu.be/NcLk350mVeE Robot MonsterReleased 1953 MST3Kd 1989Robot monster really hangs its hat on two special effects: electricity traveling down a wire/out a hand and the characters using a mirror to talk to each other. It's the height of cinema technology! They probably could have invested more resources into the robot monster. It's a man in a gorilla suit with a helmet and an antenna on top. Look at this guy: It's... a movie from the fifties. Two dudes telling at each other and not much else. Just in this one, one of the guys is the robot monster and looks like that. The ending is absolutely insulting.

Space MutinyReleased 1988 MST3Kd 1997Wow. This movie really made no sense. You've got Michael Bay levels of explosions within the first five minutes, a bunch of dancing ladies who's purpose is never really explained very well, and the most ridiculous looking "cars" involved in the slowest chase of all time. The leading man reminds me of Zapp Brannigan come to life. And the boiler room of this ship is absolutely massive - like, this ship must be miles wide. The riffs were funny though.

OK, I just looked more into what MST3Kd is doing nowadays and did not even realize they were in the middle of a 13th season until just now and they are pulling weird movies from the 90's and all sorts of different eras like "MUNCHIE"... somejabaroni, how are you watching these?? I see you can get a pretty pricey actual subscription on their website mst3k.com/ and rent out individual episodes for like $4.99, which might be the best option in my case if there are any of these I really want to see...
"MUNCHIE" looks right up my alley and looks like something I need to watch, but also it's free on Tubi and I should probably just watch it there because I don't really like the added MST3K added banter! P.S. how is the added banter for the new season? Annoying or no?

I have just enough time this morning to tell you about the MST3K I watched last night. Pod PeopleReleased 1983 MST3Kd 1991Ive seen this one before, it's an all timer. I was hoping for an invasion of the body snatchers type of movie, but this is more like murderous Alf. The boy is not as charming as "Me" from "Mac and Me", and instead revolves around this guy singer and his backup singers/recording studio crew, who of course start getting attacked by Alf. It takes a long time for this movie to establish itself, and the payoff is not worth it. The host segments on this one are probably some of my favorites in the whole series, but there's still a few I haven't seen so maybe that will change?

Dr. Mordrid Released 1992 MST3Kd 2022
Wow. What a terrible movie. So ripoff Dr. Strange here talks to a pair of floating eyes in space. I think he gets all of his orders from the eyes. I mean, just look at these things.

Pretty out of this world stuff. Anyways, so he gets told that this guy he locked away escaped, and has been stealing all of these rare earth materials to do... something? I'm not quite sure what the bad guy's endgame was, but apparently it was bad and it needed to be stopped. In addition to a cape that has no cool powers like the Dr. Strange cape, he's got this medallion that can do the Men in Black thing. I'm not sure if Men in Black is based off a book, and if it's not, the movie definitely came out after 1992 and ripped off the "flashing light makes people forget" thing from this movie. The lead actress/love interest is the lady from the hit movie Ski Patrol, which is a mainstay in the "they're going to take our mountain and turn it into a ski resort" genre of movie. And also me and Miss Jabroni fought over whether this guy has lived a hundred years, or if he can time travel and just is really familiar with things a hundred years ago. I think he's a hundred years old and can't time travel. What do you think, Forum?
As for the riffs, this was Emily's second movie and they did a good job, even though the riffs in this one I think we're not as good as her first movie, Beyond Atlantis. The lady who's voicing Crow I think re-recorded her lines because they sound a less like bart simpson which is a very good thing. I didn't see the livestream, so I haven't seen the post-episode discussion, but that's what I would guess. Also, the episode really hinted that the next movie will be Joel's return. I'm really excited for that. I bet I could figure out which episodes he's doing, but I want to be surprised when he comes back. Season 13 marches onward.

The SidehackersReleased 1969 MST3Kd 1990A brand new sport, The Sidehackers! All right so these people hang off this thing on the motorcycle and their effect on the sport has got to be pretty minimal. Then this guy kills this lady and all hell breaks lose. This was an okay episode.
