Wow! What a great pick Mitch Baker! This one was right up my alley! The skateboarding, the soundtrack, the 1970's, the hair!
Looking at old DOGTOWN videos I see that they were very true to the original videos in a lot of ways, and there is a lot of attention to detail in this movie!
Also of course a lot of this reminded of being around SKANK SKATES, I am sure Dogtown is right up GEORGE SINCLAIR (rest in peace) 'S alley - actually this morning texting Springfield punk legend KEVIN BRADFORD, Kevin tells me that George actually had some original Dogtown memerobilia up in his apartment above Skanks that is worth a lot.
A couple of other takeaways: - oh yeah, of course we all got a kick out of that brief BLACK FLAG appearance - which had me looking up what year BLACK FLAG actually started? The movie depicts them in the year '76 or '77, and doing some research wow, they started in '76 and were originally called PANIC for the first two years! I did not know that! (and sorry movie, but a BLACK FLAG shirt being worn by one of the band members does not make sense in this case timeline-wise, but I get it, they are wearing it to really show the viewers that this is BLACK FLAG) - yeah I loved the soundtrack, my favorite is that BUDGIE was playing (right before JOHNNY KNOXSVILLE shows up dressed up as KID ROCK) - my friend Evan says we all have to watch the 1978 movie "SKATEBOARD" now (not sure where that is streaming)

Hello Mitch I watched the Mummy yesterday just for you. The special effects reminded me of T2: Judgment Day. I wonder what else James Cameron has been up to lately.

The official Mitch Baker Pick-O-The-Week for this week (9/10/2023) is:
CHRISTINE (1983, dir. John Carpenter)
Which we are going to see the 40th Anniversary edition at AMC theaters this evening!
This is exciting to me because I have never gone and seen an older movie at a theater here in Springfield before. Okay last time maybe would have been either Wizard of Oz or The Return of the Jedi at the ESQUIRE Theater when I was REAL young.
Everyone watch this this week and report back

Following up with my review of "Christine," taken straight from my Letterboxd:
Wow movie club, went with Mitch to see this at Showplace 12 here in Springfield, I have never seen an older film in the theater here in Springfield (at least not since Wizard of Oz at the Esquire on MacArthur when I was 9 years old or some sh*t). They were showing this for its 40th anniversary.
Note: usually I think it is okay to show up to a movie right at start time or 5 minutes late because the previews go for a while, but I guess in this case there were no previews and they started right at 7:00 so whoops!!
This was some pretty classic John Carpenter, gettin' me in the mood for the fall and Halloween season. The soundtrack with synth and piano parts was all there too. Also yet another movie to file under 1980's movies with a fascination / nostalgia for the 1950's. Had some special effects like when that car was drivin' around on fire, or when it was coming back to life, I was impressed. *Another note, hearing some of the 1980's high school sex jokes / queer-calling that have not aged well (but sadly almost to be expected) was a lil bizarre seeing on a big screen in 2023.
