there are some finicky bulbs on the playfied, so you're not totally off base. Everytime I'm trying to work on it they're working and then later I come back and they're not, but I think at this point most are working.
I think you need to go back to Pinball 101 if you don't know what scoring any switch means. Basically we call that a frenzy, most notably from the frenzy mode in Funhouse. Any switch means anything on the playfield that scores points since everything that scores involves closing a switch to register the hit. This could be pop bumpers, slingshots, spinners, targets, anything. So that could really rack up points if you can keep your multiball alive long enough and hit lots of stuff. Typically in frenzies you want to aim for spinners and pop bumpers, but that's not really happening in this game, so it's just generally trying to cause as much chaos with the balls to hit lots of targets, and it also helps to stay in the upper playfield for as long as you can too since that's a tight space with plenty of switches to hit.
Also since there isn't a whole lot you need to do to get into multiball this game is all about getting into multiball and staying in multiball for as long as possible and then getting right back into it and don't tilt so you don't lose that big giant bonus.
I think they added the hot shot ramp just because there really isn't much to shoot for from the right flipper. The only thing I can think of to do with the right flipper is to try to backhand the heat bumper as it's not worth trying to hit the numbered targets from there.

4,451,130! Got multiball three times, plus an extra ball. Someday I will learn how to bump machines, as I'm just playing without it. I guess that means I can't tilt, so that's a plus I guess.
My next plan is to read the rules so I know how I'm actually getting points.

Jack, now you gotta make an account on pinside.com and upload that score of yours. Looks like you'd be #23-24 or so out of 54.
pinside.com/pinball/machine/hollywood-heat/scores/1
Looks like the all time all time high score logged on pinside is 39 million. I think with Springfield forum underground teamwork we can get up there.
Here's a 14 minute long video of someone getting 14 million. Let's study it really good and then show back up to the pinball gym tomorrow with some new strategy okay team let's go
EDIT: one minute into this video and I notice that guy is using those plastic white balls, so this is now an ILLEGAL score of 14 million points, Jeff what's up with that?? EDIT #2: I see he's hitting that ramp using the right flipper... one can't be too sure that this teqnique would work with a normal ball though

those are probably ceramic power balls intended to be used with Twilight Zone. Those are lighter and faster than normal balls so yea that's why he would be able to backhand it up the ramp easy. They look kind of nice in this machine but doesn't make sense to me to use them as the playfield is too tight for a faster ball like that.

Next time I'm in, I might focus on hitting that ramp with accuracy. Locking balls is easy, but I am nowhere near consistent with ramps. That's not just this game.

I forgot to mention the other day I got a score of 4.5m, which means I finally beat Brian on something but it still wasn't the hi score on the machine.
I still think HH is a better game than Raven. I still like the unique layout and it makes me want to keep playing.

Congrats on defeating Brian.

The other day I realized this one is much taller than the other pinballs in the arcade. I really like how tall it is. I wonder if that's why this one feels more comfortable to play.

It is interesting how the dimensions of pinball cabinets change between companies and years. Gottlieb premier games from this era are definitely a different feel

Wow, it's been a while since I added a game to my signature. For some reason I just do really well on this game. Just work on getting that multiball, once I have it then try to hit as many drop targets as I can, rinse and repeat. Also from the right flipper I'm not aiming for anything but trying to backhand the heat bumper and sometimes I can get it up the ramp.
Also I was playing Raven last night and I actually got the ball up the ramp. I was worried the flippers were too underpowered to get it all the way there, but it's just a matter of hitting it perfectly.
