I finally did a thing I've been thinking about doing for years in the arcade. I actually recorded the total games played for each pinball machine. I also got the total games for Gunblade since it's a dedicated game and is easy to get that number. I'm not sure how to get that for the rest of the arcades or if that's even an option. Asteroids counters seemed tied to coin drops rather than starting games. Surfplanet is already slated to leave the arcade so I'm not going to try to figure that one out.
Now we can see exactly how many games are being played each month and which machines are on top of the heap!
Here is our starting point:
Dolly Parton 7868 Volcano 329 Raven 239 Godzilla 8516 Shrek 16376 MIBS 81977 Hollywood Heat 510 Gunblade 7052 Hydro Thunder 8430
At the end of March I will refresh these numbers and then we will know how many games were played for the month and we'll see if we can keep it going after that. Some of these beginning numbers are low for games that are 30+ years old, I assume that's because they lose their total games played whenever the battery is replaced. Since MIBS is an EM machine, it has a pinball counter so that's actually accurate, although that may be based off of coin drops rather than the start button being pushed, so we'll see how that goes. It is interesting to see just how many plays our NIB (new in box) Godzilla machine has had so far. Wow that is a ton! no wonder I have to work on it and clean it so much.
My money is on Gunblade, which is a cheaper game than any pinball and everyone just wants to play that as pinball is weird and boring.

YE OLD MIBS PINBALL, 81 THOUSAND PLAYS?!? MY MY MY
Okay I'm gonna get my predictions out there, I think you are wrong about Gunblade's tally because while it is popular, you only need to play it ONCE. Unless the arcade attendees jumping back into games as if they were putting in quarters counts as a play...
Also if SURF PLANET had a counter on it we all know it would end up dead last, sorry SURF PLANET. Also Astroids... maybe not as bad as Surf Planet.
My predictions:
1. GODZILLA 2. SHREK 3. GUNBLADE 4. DOLLY PARTON 5. RAVEN 6. VOLCANO 7. MIBS 8. HOLLYWOOD HEAT

Brian made me come back and play one game of the pinball game with the girl holding the gun today so you can add one point on it for that game Jeff

My birthday pinball fest by myself might've skewed the numbers a bit.

I'm disappointed in springfieldians reluctance to fire up HOLLYWOOD HEAT

That is a pretty interesting opinion that Raven is a better game than Hollywood Heat. I think that's where the hard numbers are going to really come into play. I definitely rank Hollywood higher, but still toward the bottom of course. Raven may just get a bump right now because it's new to the lineup.
I'm also not really sure if Shrek, Godzilla or Dolly will have more plays. This is getting interesting for sure.
Now i know where all those random party hats came from

Raven is NOT a better game than Hollywood Heat, I am just predicting that it will rack up more plays for the month of March.

I feel better about that now, thanks for making things clear
I'm toying with the idea of having the numbers tell me in a couple months whether hollywood or raven will be sacrificed to bring Dredd back into the lineup.

OK here are the BIG MARCH JUICY NUMBERS forum fan's
Since Volcano and Godzilla were both down for about a week, I averaged and extrapolated how many games would have been played on them for those missing weeks.
Gunblade - 1138 Godzilla - 654 Shrek - 568 Dolly - 480 Volcano - 467 MIBS - 457 Hydro Thunder - 402 Hollywood Heat - 374 Raven - 99
Wow what a bunch of stuff to talk about here!
I can confirm that Gunblade is cheating. I played through a whole mission with my kid tonight and I can confirm each time you press continue adds to the total game plays. During our one session we added 22 games played.
I did expect better from Hydro, but it wasn't in the arcade for a whole month. I expect this game will probably have a pretty similar average each month.
Very surprising is the strong showing from MIBS, staying right up there with the big boys.
I'm not surprised seeing Dolly as the 3rd best pinball. I will probably never get rid of Dolly no matter how many times people ask me to sell it to them.
We can also confidently say now Raven is the worst pinball of the bunch. I thought this might have been a mistake but I double checked everything, it was really that bad. I know when I'm back there I like playing Hollywood but avoid Raven other than testing it to make sure it's still working. Well you know what that means, Dredd will be taking Raven's spot in May when it comes back to the arcade
EDIT: after thinking about this more, I'm realizing when games are unplayable then people are going to move to the next game, which might explain the higher numbers on MIBs and Dolly. Also Hollywood and Raven may have lower numbers because they can only have 20 credits added at a time so the person working the counter has to keep on top of adding credits to those and it probably doesn't get done on busy days. Still, that doesn't completely account for the lousy numbers on Raven.

OH BOY ARE YOU READY??? THE APRIL NUMBERS ARE HERE!!!
Gunblade - 1084 Godzilla - 490 Shrek - 432 Hydro - 370 Dolly - 322 Volcano - 293 Hollywood - 302 Suspense - 275 Raven - 233
Congrats to Suspense for not being in the arcade a whole month and still beating Raven, even tho it's a far less exciting pin from 1969. It did seem MIBS was more popular than suspense but the March numbers were probably a bit skewed by some machines being down for long periods of time.
I'm glad Hydro is getting some consistent action given all the work I put into it.
Dolly is still the queen of all the lower tier pinballs even tho it has the fewest features, it's the power of Dolly!
This month is a pretty accurate read as all the games were on and working nearly 100% of the time. Almost every time I walked into the arcade and a game wasn't working, it was just due to a stuck ball.
