WHELP FORUM,
I had heard an official rumor that was correct all along, I heard this rumor in December 2021 (highly confidential information) and it turned out to be TRUE, they really are making VENOM pinball.
This one sure makes LESS sense than FOO FIGHTERS or JAMES BOND.
But here we go, apparently IT'S VENOM WEEK:

I just figured all along Venom was just misdirection on what the real title was going to be, but here we are
No-one:
Stern: Venom Pinball!
Also this one is designed by Brian Eddy. Although he has made some of the best pins in the 90s with MM and ATM, he still hasn't made a pin yet for stern that comes close to those. Maybe he'll finally do it this time. We'll find out this week!

Okay LOL here we go
...where's the pinball podcast guy that's supposed to break this down for me, I don't know how I am supposed to feel. Looks like a mostly open playfield with some cool stuff going on in the back after the first watch?
EDIT: After the second watch, like where are the pop bumpers or anything? It just looks like a bunch of ramp shots going on in the back?

lol, I'm rushing to the forum with my first impressions and Brian is already here. I guess things start heating up whenever Stern releases a new game.
I think we're pretty in sync here on our impressions. Very open playfield means it's going to be fast. In fact now that I pause the video on the pro model to really look at it, it's so open it's just silly. there isn't even a return rail crossing the middle of the playfield. The returns are hugging the sides like everything is afraid of the middle. Which actually now that I think of it, I usually complain about middle shots as they're very risky. This might actually be an easier game than usual because of that. Brian Eddy did get a lot of flack for how close to the front everything was on Stranger Things so maybe that has something to do with it.
To get anything happening in the middle, you have to get the premium which has those dangly targets that swing out. I guess that's the big innovation on this game as I'm not sure I've seen that before, and the ferris wheel looking ball lock is kind of new but probably very similar to Hurricane, cyclone, etc.
The very first thing I noticed on my first play of the video was how shaky the ramps are, when the passes through the structures holding up the ramps, everything is so wobbly. That's just not looking good to me.
Given the recent games for Stern this seems to be least innovative and is probably going to rely a lot on the theme, especially throughout this video as they're making a big deal on which character you start the game as, not good if that's the best thing it has going for it. To top that all off, Stern released a video yesterday just describing the characters as most people don't know what's even going on.
I'm sure we're just an hour or 2 away from Cary Hardy posting a video where he poops all over it.

What are the chances that Decatur Troy is going to have his own personal Venom set up in his warehouse this week...

I don't like how far away everything is. I was excited for a Venom theme, but I'm rather disappointed. Maybe my opinion will change once full gameplay videos come out. I feel like he left the playfield this open out of spite.

This looks pretty weak. Like, is the Pro edition even really a pinball machine? Have to play the premium to be "interesting" at all and even then, meh. I'm so sick of Marvel pins to be honest.

I've watched most of the stream and it maybe isn't that bad. I'm sure it will be fun to play. I guess the return rails on the sides are part of the ball lock mechanism. Watching the balls move around on those rails that are not actually in play reminds me of Spectrum. It does give the feeling of lots of action. It also looks like a lot of things can be stacked seeing multiple multiballs and mini modes going on at the same time so that's fun.
I still don't think this will be a hall of fame game for stern but maybe better than James Bond, but the fast action and flow at least for me.
The Gary Stern part of the stream was fun. "the great designer Harry Williams didn't play pinball, he just watched people play". I suppose I could say that I don't play pinball, I just watch people break them.
Oh and there is a video mode!
